at one of the San Fernando Valley’s largest solar power installations — 600 panels generating 100 kilowatts of clean, renewable electricity. This solar array will supply all the electricity needs of the 28,000-square foot facility on which it sits. It will also fuel the fully electric cars owned by American Hi Definition and Sweetwater Digital, Renewable L.A.’s hosts and sponsors along with Energy Efficiency Solar, the company that is installing the vast array.

What’s on the Roof:
600 190-watt Evergreen solar panels generating 100 kilowatts of electricity, which will meet 100 percent of the site’s present energy usage.

What’s it Save?
From the air: By displacing a portion of the electricity that would otherwise be provided by the grid, the solar array will reduce by 180,000 pounds the amount of carbon dioxide — the chief global warming gas — emitted into the air each year.

From the pocketbook: The system will supply free electricity to the site for decades. The solar panels are guaranteed for 25 years and expected to last up to 50 years. The upfront cost of the system will be earned back within about 10 years (at present electricity rates).
